Window Rock, Arizona The president of the Navajo Indians, Joe Shirley Jr., has vetoed a Tribal Council decision. The Assembly had passed a ban on gay marriage at the end of April. The nation has approximately 180,000 inhabitants in the states of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah – in these states, gay marriage is also prohibited. Shirley said the Tribal Council has more important to do than such a ban, which also violates the tribal’s anti-discrimination laws. (Nb)
